Homework Sketch Dump 10 + Happy New Years

Sorry guys, I had meant to write a more profound blog post but I just haven't had the time and looks like I won't have any time until after the New Year. :( So here I am throwing out another sketch dump. I honestly didn't expect to be this busy the later half of my break. The first couple of days were so leisurely but I was still working. I'll probably will be able to get more work done after the new year.

Been falling behind on my sketch page a day challenge. I need to make up 3 pages. :( Also was only able to complete one comic in my 3 one shot comic challenge I had with a friend. OTL Well it's better than nothing, right?! I do have one thumbnailed and the other penciled that needs to be scanned and toned. lol Bad, bad, bad...>_<;; I haven't been able to read a book either during the break much. I have a stack of books screaming to be read but I've no time. Eck, well I hope to be able to make up for it once my siblings leave. They do like dragging me out to places and socialize. XD

Well, I hope you all have a great new years with fresh beginnings and blessings! Let's do this! 2013 here we come!

Sketches I had to do for my 3D modeling homework at school. These sketches were all copied from Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life. It's interesting to learn to draw from it. Hopefully it improves my anatomy. XD

Homework Sketch Dump 9 + Happy Holidays!

Sketches I had to do for my 3D modeling homework at school. These sketches were all copied from Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life. It's interesting to learn to draw from it. Hopefully it improves my anatomy. XD

Sorry, wasn't able to get a good blog post this week so  you get mostly sketches! I've been able to start comicking again which is great. Slowly but surely. I'm hoping to be able to get a lot of work done over the break if possible. Comic or novel. Either would be great. ;)

Oh I bought myself a bunch of new art supplies! Merry Christmas to me! lol I've been wanting to experiment with watercolor again so I'm hoping that buying these new art supplies will be incentive enough to get my started. I might be unexpectedly busy the rest of the holiday break but we'll see. I'm hoping to also focus on my stories but also have fun doing it.

So far so good on the 75 sketch (page) challenge. I've been doing one for every day, although I did fall behind a couple of times I was able to make up the page the next day or so. :) I strongly urge you all to give the challenge a try! You'll get an artistic license for completing the challenge!

If you didn't already notice, I updated my Current Projects page since I finished my 24 Hour Comic 2011 called "Incidental" which isn't posted anywhere yet. I've still got a few tweaks before I start posting. :) Also I updated my Cuurent Tools and Reviews Page if you're interested. I really should do more reviews. More things to put on my To-do list. :)

Well I think that's about it for now! I hope you all have a great Holiday Season filled with lots of love, family, and fun!

75 Day Sketch Challenge

Hey artist friends! Ever want you own "Artistic License"?

Well jump on over to Brenda Swenson: 75 Day Sketch Challenge. Here you can get your own Artistic License with your own photo.

It'll look something like this (image from http://brendaswenson.blogspot.com):

It's a real solid plastic license, not just an image that you'll see online. lol The only rule is that you can only use pen to sketch which I kind of already do but I'm just inconsistent on how often I sketch. I'm going to try to kick it up a notch and sketch 75 pages not just the number of sketches. If you follow my blog you already see how I sketch so I'm going to try to do more than just people.

Going to try sketching buildings, textures, lighting, anything out of my comfort zone. We'll see how long that'll last. XD It should be fun and definitely a challenge. It'll give me a reason to use my sketchbooks. ^_~

My start date will be Dec 15, 2012 to make it easier to keep track and should end February 27, 2013 but I may do it a day later just so I can remember the end date easier (1 day away from the end of the month). lol Unfortunately you know how slow I am at scanning and uploading sketches so I probably won't show them until I finish the challenge. Then I'll mass upload to use for blog posts later. :D I'll probably tweet my progress on Twitter if you're interested.

Let me know if you're going to do it! We can cheer each other on! The point and goal is to get you to improve your observation skills and build confidence in your skills. Good luck to all challengers!

Review: Quo Vadis Space 24 Calendar

I promised a review in the last post and a review you shall have!

Ok, it is now near the end of the year so it's fitting to do a review on the Quo Vadis Exacompta Space 24 Calendar I won in a giveaway last year! I've been using it nearly every day in the past year and it's looking pretty good with the cover. Just a note: These photos were taken part way through 2012 while I was using it.

This paper wrap dictated the information of the journal and pretty much sums up the planner. It was wrapped around the front part of the cover and it works.

The paper is a yellowish-green color which isn't too displeasing to the eye despite the strange color combination. Not quite yellow, ivory, or cream. I got used to it and kind of like it. Maybe I'm biased as my favorite color is green. Still it's pretty warm and doesn't glare in your eyes in bright light compared to other colors. It doesn't get in the way either when you write. I'm not sure if lighter colored inks would be visible but I don't like light colored inks when I write.

As you can see this paper is fountain pen friendly. No feathering! I love the smoothness of the paper, so silky smooth! I love it. This was written with a Lamy Safari with Noodler's Lexington Gray.

Lays flat right off the bat. No need to hold it down or anything! That's just awesome.

So I won another planner from Quo Vadis this year! (I know I'm lucky X3) Here's a comparison side by side. I'll do a review on the other planner later but do note that I could fit the scholar planner in the same cover.

Just wanted a picture of what it looked like with the planner in the cover. Not exactly an attractive binding edge but not ugly either. Round is probably better than squared. I have to admit I really like the size of this planner! It fits in a bag and if I need to shove paper for something all I need to do it fold the letter size in half and stuff it in the planner. I tend to lose sheets of papers sometimes so this really helped keep me organized in projects or notes.

The type of cover I selected is a Black Soya cover because I preferred the smooth feeling over the textured Club cover. It was just a preference of mine. I really liked the cover, it was sturdy and protected my planner from any unfortunate food and drink accidents. The only slight downside is that it also felt a little plastic-y. Not a bad thing, but I was expecting a more supple smooth cover but this wasn't bad. I ended up liking it a lot despite that.

The inside cover, pretty standard. The inserts are refillable which is great and eco-friendly. :D

Various front pages that may or may not be useful to you. I didn't really use them but if you travel a lot they may be useful to you.

The Semi-annual part of the planner was interesting. It gives you a slot for every day of the year which is convenient if that's how you plan things. Unfortunately, I didn't use this as I don't plan ahead that far but it's pretty neat if you need it. There's a second part that has the rest of the year that I didn't picture.

I loved the Monthly view. I used this a bit for half the year before realizing I was falling behind on certain weekly items. Then I just stuck with weekly the rest of the year. Still I have some family members who prefer solely using the Monthly view which I'm sure there are others out there that prefer the monthly view.

Something to note that you might want to know is that the monthly section is collectively together before the weekly part of the planner starts. Some calendars put the month view right before the first week of that month. Just something to mention. :)

Now the weekly view. I love it for the most part. Plenty of space on the right side for notes. I used that mostly for To-Do lists, homework, or random notes I needed to remember. It was extremely helpful. I do like the 8am to 9pm schedule but I use it more for than work. I use it for life projects/events so I would prefer if the time slots ended a few hours later, such as 10pm or 11pm. Nevertheless, I made due, it wasn't a huge hindrance.

I also didn't really use the week count at all. I'm not sure what you'd use it for exactly...If you know please enlighten me. :) You can also tear off the corners at the bottom of the planner to allow easier access to the current week. I didn't really use it. I don't like tearing the pieces off and wasting them. I actually had little trouble flipping to the current week because of the wear I had on the planner. Unused parts stayed together and often defaulted to flipping to the current week or so automatically. Overall, I really liked this weekly view. A few times I did use the 3 calendar view under the notes but not too much.

Oh yes, you can also plan ahead in the next year! I didn't use this at all...I don't plan that far ahead but it's useful to copy down in the future new planner. :)

So, there is a travel expense record that you can use. It'd be useful if you travel a lot but I don't so I didn't use it at all. Any notes I needed to make I'd make it in the notes section. I don't think there would be enough slots to use this part of the planner efficiently. Most people would probably write it in the notes section too or use a dedicated notebook for this type of notes.

On the right is the removable address book insert. Unfortunately, I didn't really use it either. Although if you like to catalogue your addresses then this would be great for you!

There's a slot for an address, home phone, cell phone, fax, and email! I love that it's removable so you can use it in another future planner so you don't have to rewrite all the information.

In conclusion, I've grown fairly fond of this planner. It's super convenient to carry around and perfect for a bag. The paper is fountain pen friendly which means generally all ink friendly as long as it dries. It has all the bells and whistles of a typical planner and a little extra. There are some aspects that I didn't use but each person has their own needs. This one definitely won't let you down. I only am sad that it's going to end already and that it wasn't a 2-year planner.

Homework Sketch Dump 8 + eStore Questions

Sketches I had to do for my 3D modeling homework at school. These sketches were all copied from Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life. It's interesting to learn to draw from it. Hopefully it improves my anatomy. XD

Wow, it's December already! Did that year go by fast or what?! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday! I ate a lot but mostly it was a good quiet holiday with family. :)

Well I definitely didn't get what I had wanted done at all. Still I have a month left to get my butt into gear. Today is the 1 year anniversary of opening my online store at Storenvy! I was going to do something big but the day crept up on me. I also did just have a huge sale on everything in my store for Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Unfortunately, no one took advantage of that. That's ok, I'll have another one soon....maybe... *coughChristmascough* So keep an eye out. ^_~

Lately I've been more in a writing mood, started developing ideas for my novel. It's funny because I'm starting to merge some of my stories so that's a good thing! The bad is that it makes it a bit more complicated story-wise but I think it will be worth it if I ever get it done. Still toning my 24HCD but I'm getting to the point where I just want to get it done and work on something else. haha I'm probably way over toning it. Still, it's practice and I'm getting used to using Manga Studio. It's not very efficient though. I don't know, maybe I'm doing it all wrong? haha I'm still learning. :D

So just reaching out to my good followers, do you like what I have in my online store? What else would you like to see in it? I'm open to ideas but not all ideas may be used. Gotta stick to a budget, ya know? ^_~ Anyways, I'd love to hear what you guys are looking for.

Take care all!
