Book Bouncers + Revising + Sketches

Hey everyone! Hope you all have been well! So, I have been able to talk to a friend about my stories, aka from now on are coined Book Bouncers. Yeah I think it's funny. lol We talked out some of the plot issues I have with my stories and I got feedback about it. That has been so helpful!

My book bouncer seems to be pretty excited over the stories which is great! They read stories that I like so it's good to have someone who reads similar stories. They have the knowledge to help me avoid common cliches and stereotypes and solve some story issues with some original ideas. That definitely helps motivate me to finish it. I know it's mostly done but I just need to fill in the empty spaces and help make the transitions better. Still needs revised and completed but it's on its way to being done.

Going to try to set some hard deadlines for myself now that I'm more available. I hope to finish these stories one day even if they aren't as good as I had hoped. I really need to get them out because I've had them for years and it's getting horrible how unfinished I am with everything. The same with my comic projects.

I decided to try assigning myself tasks for the week for my project so that I  hope to get a little done each week. I was doing it daily but for some reason fell off that wagon. I was so productive during that time. I forget what distracted me but now I need to start doing that again. *pulls out calendar*

Current task of the week: Revise Blindfolded Love's story structure and add new pieces to the story.

Life Update + Glass City Con + Otakon + Sketch Dump

Hey everyone! I have sketches for you today! Did you miss them? lol I think I'm finally near the end of my 2012 and 2013 sketches. haha I need to start getting new images for 2014. I'm definitely going to change it up soon. I'm not going to scan them as often anymore (takes too long and it's not connected to my computer because it's too big and takes up too much space) and instead take photos which I feel is more appealing showing my tools of the trade and atmosphere.

As you all have known, I've been busy with cons the last few weeks and I had a great time! It was awesome to meet and talk to new people! I still need to go through all the business cards and info I got from artists. lol I'm so slow at doing that. I think I still have some from Otakon last year that I need to go through. I'm terrible. XD I'm going to try to knock those out in the next week.

Sales were poor overall at both cons. I'm a bit disappointed but like I said above. Talking to all the other awesome creators made up for it, mostly at Glass City Con because it was so small. Otakon AA peeps were busy but I enjoyed talking to the few that I was able to talk to when they weren't busy. But I am grateful for anyone who talked or purchased from me! I really do appreciate it and I hope to keep growing. Hopefully you guys will stick around with me long enough to see that. ^_~

The one thing about cons I find is that once a con is over, I have an overwhelming need to create more and improve myself. lol Seeing all the inspiring art and creativity just makes me want to do better and I really need that motivation. Too bad it doesn't last more than a few weeks. Someone want to volunteer to kick me in the rear if I don't get anything done? lol

Ok, lately I've decided to try to finish a novella or novel. Depends on how the word count ends. It's at 26k right now but it's not completed. Then it needs to be edited. I might translate that into a comic. I haven't decided yet. It originally was going to be one but we'll see how long I can do it for. lol I have a feeling it'll take me forever. Still I want to get something done. The story is Blindfolded Love. It's basically the characters you guys keep seeing in most of my sketches. lol

I also need to finish/edit some other minor comics and stories I've started but haven't quite finished. I probably should abandon one but I want to fix it and get it done. It's hard for me because I'm such a perfectionist. I know I need to finish and then start something new or I'll never move on or improve.

Oh, I did get a 2013 Winners T-shirt from the Nanowrimo store! lol Got a discount for winning Campnano and decided to get my well deserved shirt. I also need new clothes and I figured I might as well buy one showing off my achievements! lol

So yeah, it's been a fairly busy few weeks. I also helped a friend move and then this weekend I'll help my sister move. I plan on binge reading whenever I can and I definitely need to catch up on my journals, writing, and sketching. *sigh*

Hope things have been good on your end!

Review: 1st Annual Big Comic Show

Hey everyone! Sorry for the lack of posts the last few weeks. Been recuperating the best I can especially with the holiday weekend and family coming over. Then I ended up focusing on writing for Campnanowrimo

Today I wanted to talk about the first Annual Big Comic Show (you can even see a rare photo of me on their page!) that happened in May hosted by a local library.

I arrived later than I would have liked. I live within 20-30 minutes but I still took a wrong turn and kept hitting all the lights so I made it much later than I would have liked. XD It didn't quite help that it rained that day too so it was deterring to most people from coming on a Saturday. When I did arrive there was a sign that told us which was our table or we could ask a librarian. We also got a couple little Hershey's nuggets with a welcome note which I thought was sweet (thank you!).

I was the last to set up in the room but there were some kind offerings of help that I had to turn down because I wasn't sure how I was setting everything up. The thing is, I haven't had a whole table to myself in awhile. I usually share with someone so it was strange having all this room. lol

Anyways, since it was the first year I didn't expect much sale-wise and while the people were kind and interested, I didn't make any sales. Not completely surprising since it is their first year and I can't complain too much since the tables were free but it would have been nice to recuperate some of the gas and time it took to get there. I think most people were interested in purchasing comics which as you all know I don't have any yet. Well I have some mini-comics completed but I am not satisfied with them and I didn't get any printed in time which was my fault. Still it was awesome to meet people and to talk to everyone.

The nice thing is that it was cool to meet all the other artists/comic creators in the local area. I haven't met some of them before so it was awesome to be able to network with a few of them. Overall, I had a good time and would like to attend next year if possible! :D

Now for all the photos!

Here's a shot of my table. :D

A few shots from behind my table.

Shots from entering the room.

We were split in different areas from the entire library. I was in the room where people just walk in through the entrance. Here's shots as you enter the library.

Shots of more of the inside library.

So I thought there was only three sections of tables but apparently I missed one section after looking through the artists list. Apparently, I wasn't able to get everyone. There were a few workshops I didn't get pictures of because I didn't attend but it sounded fun for those who were interested in making comics.

I'd love to attend again because I had a good time and it's close enough to me that I don't mind driving that distance. I hope that next year will be even better! Thanks for having me! Thanks for reading this far! Feel free to leave me any comments or questions below!

Also for you fellow YA fans there is going to be a YA Author Fest at the same library coming up July 26th which starts at 1pm! Definitely check it out! You can meet the authors and even some fellow fans! :D

(Notice: These pictures were taken at random so if you don't want your photo on my blog please let me know and I will either blur your face or take the photo down.)

Project Goal: To get a first draft of two novels at an estimated 20k each which makes it a total of 40k.

Stage of writing: First Draft

What inspired my current project: I read a story on tumblr and read comments that said someone should write a story based off that topic. The suggestions and my desire to expand on it inspired my own version. It's sci-fi but it takes place in the not too distant future. lol

Last 200 words:

I checked the time and realized it was getting late and that I still needed to shower. I hopped out of the pool and grabbed my towel. When I pulled it up something fluttered to the ground. I picked it up and saw it was a name and phone number. Seriously? Ok. She was way too young for me. I crumpled it up and tossed it. I then walked to the locker room and felt the glare of the life guard from earlier. Great...I'll have to watch my back next time I come here.

I showered quickly this time even though I longed to stay under the steaming heat of the shower. I changed and left the locker room. I lifted my head and saw something move by the door. I shook my head. I needed to stop being paranoid.

I left the gym and headed home glad it was a close walk. Something made the hairs on the back of my neck stand and I turned around. I didn't see anything and I didn't know what made me hyper aware that something or someone was watching me.

It was getting unnerving.
